Nobody in his right mind would approach a Captain Marvel comic book with the same literary expectations as a Tolstoy novella (in other words, yes: Neil Gaiman fans are ALL INSANE), but that doesn't mean some Captain Marvel comic books aren't worthy of attention.

Books are seed-grounds of unlimited possibilities, yet I've always been struck by the timidity of many readers, and the snobbery. Calling a book like "The Viscount in Her Bedroom" 'camp' because it doesn't conform to an 'elevated' literary aesthetic (real or imagined) does a disservice both to that book and to the idea of the literary aesthetic. I mean, would you call "Crime and Punishment" a bad whodunnit, just because we know who killed the old lady all along? Is "Mansfield Park" bad (or 'camp') sociological history, just because the whole issue of plantation slavery is skirted fairly shallowly?

I whole-heartedly encourage you to explore the vast back-log of Stevereads (YEARS we've been doing this! YEARS!), and I both warn and promise you: you will find ample writing on 'camp' subjects such as comics, TV, and even romance novels, and: all that writing, not just the stuff on Elizabethan England and Samuel Pepys, will be damn GOOD. It takes many dishes to make a feast, and I alternately have an appetite for just about all of them.stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00411174345391126343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32302521.post-9339613113417320782008-07-28T11:55:00.000-07:002008-07-28T11:55:00.000-07:00Stevereads !!! I am going to look for this book and not just for me

- This is quite a few Stevereads worthy blogs in row as you predicited - It is great that you know when your work is at a very high level - I am nervous that Viscount is in the queue. Was it four --- that would mean one more worthy effort before you deign - the good news is that if Stevereads works were so readable and interesting the Viscount's visits would not be camp -

I am going read earlier Stevereads blogs - your oeurve - to see what the All On Stevereads should contain.

Onward!1moresloggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04148551493301823322noreply@blogger.com
