Obama's attempts at lowbrowing it haven't come off well. Remember his awkward attempt at bowling? He should stick to his strengths.

I do, however, agree about the speech. I thought at the time, and I still do, that it was pretty gutsy.

Actually, I disagree with Anderson about style too. I think he comes off a bit too sanguine for the sake of a good sentence. A President and his style must work within the constraints of the political system. Style often bends to the latter, and Obama positions reflect pragmatism as much as anything else.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32302521.post-87640975294132666892008-06-25T11:40:00.000-07:002008-06-25T11:40:00.000-07:00I always enjoy it when you give Alice Munro a good...I always enjoy it when you give Alice Munro a good thrashing.

By the by, I delved into my dwindling pile of unread Steve-books this week and am now deep into The Seven Pillars of Wisdom by T.E. Lawrence. I'm sure I thanked you for it when you gave it to me 6 years ago but, now that I'm finally reading/enjoying it, I thank you again.

I think I'll have to see the movie again when I'm done.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05884498632658933283noreply@blogger.com
