Anyway I'm not one for historical fiction typically but the cover art could woo me -- I know a Kinuko Y Craft face when I see one.Imanihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09647980707788075258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32302521.post-86008562548508283042007-06-12T04:24:00.000-07:002007-06-12T04:24:00.000-07:00Oh yes, let's.mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....Oh yes, let's.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00411174345391126343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32302521.post-35591070775762252592007-06-11T07:21:00.000-07:002007-06-11T07:21:00.000-07:00I could see that. Let's imagine that for a moment.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32302521.post-27632301390525775062007-06-10T04:41:00.000-07:002007-06-10T04:41:00.000-07:00Alas, some producer DID. If you go to your local movie store, you will find two versions of 'A Lion in Winter' - and the second one, starring Glenn Close and Patrick Stewart, is so wretched that only one viewing can induce kidney rupture.

Among its many, many flaws is one it shares in common with the Hepburn/O'Toole production: in both cases, the producers tried to cast extremely POWERFUL actors in the two lead roles. In the Hepburn/O'Toole version, it works because the two actors in question were the best in the world, at the peak of their talents. But it's a bad mistake nonetheless.

What you want in casting Henry and Eleanor isn't actors who convey power but actors who embody the RUIN of power. The text makes it clear that the central tragedy of Henry and Eleanor is that they AREN'T anymore what they were: she's no longer beautiful, and he's no longer strong. What we should be seeing in the actors are compelling RUINS, through which genuine power can be channelled one last time.

I'd pick Vanessa Redgrave for Eleanor and Albert Finney for Henry.stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00411174345391126343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32302521.post-27748110257549618632007-06-09T22:42:00.000-07:002007-06-09T22:42:00.000-07:00By the way, 'a mind like Aristotle's and a form li...By the way, 'a mind like Aristotle's and a form like mortal sin' also pretty much sums up my feelings the first time I set eyes on Steve.

...and to those of you who might say that the mortal sin had to have been "gluttony", remember we are a mere word or two away from "panishment."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32302521.post-69786518399178572992007-06-09T22:37:00.000-07:002007-06-09T22:37:00.000-07:00If some producer were cracked enough to mess with ...If some producer were cracked enough to mess with perfection and redo "A Lion In Winter", who would you choose to play Eleanor? I can't imagine anyone other than Katherine Hepburn. What about Henry?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
